Stockport Council is working with Muse Developments to create a new office led development creating a gateway into Stockport town. This multi-phase development will comprise hotels, office space, a leisure centre, shops and a brand new multi storey car park. The multi storey car park was the first phase of this new £60m development.
The multi storey car park provides 1,000 spaces and is located opposite Stockport train station. You may think that there is not much call for powder coated architectural products in a multi storey car park, but this particular construction project featured many.
Superior Paint and Powder Coating provided powder coated steel products
GKD is known the world over as a leading manufacturer of architectural mesh in stainless steel. GKD mesh can be seen throughout the world in many buildings where a durable and strong steel mesh is required externally to commercial buildings.
Superior Paint and Powder Coating provided the powder coated GKD material and powder coated steel frames to the new construction of Stockport’s multi storey car park. RHWL Architects designed the building and created a variety of uses for the powder coated GKD mesh for the exterior cladding material palette. These consisted of:
- powder coated steel frames to the cladding on the upper floors
- Aluminium perforated rain screen cladding in RAL 7015 to stair cores and ground floor offices
- Expanded metal mesh powder coated RAL 7015 to ground floor cladding
GKD Orange blended in well with powder coated Grey RAL 7016 steel frames.
The steel frame to the cladding panels was powder coated grey to which was fitted expanded mesh strips such as the GKD Calder that were woven around the bars of the frame to create the weaving pattern that forms the main feature of the external elevations.
Elsewhere in the construction of this building were flat perforated aluminium Rain Screen panels also powder coated in RAL 7016 grey. The Ground floor of the car park building also had powder coated expanded metal mesh with a larger “weave” that was fixed on wind posts.
Car park buildings may not utilise traditional powder coated products such as doors and windows, but such is the versatility of polyester powder coating to aluminium or steel. Superior Paint and Powder coating are able to powder coat aluminium or steel including structural steelwork and architectural mesh in stainless steel as demonstrated in this construction project.
